Fear Not!

Alright folks, it's time for my first post with actual content. Today's topic: angels. Now, when many of you think of an angel, you get an image of some guy in white robes with a halo and fluffy wings. In almost all cases, this is completely wrong. Take the cherub. Naked baby with wings? Try "multi-winged humanoid with four different faces". In many verses, angels are described as being beautiful. Beautiful, and often terrible to behold. The angel in Daniel 5:6 : "His body was like chrysolite, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude." Beautiful, but at the same time fucking terrifying. And those are just the angels that look like people. Some are described as looking like rings of flame lined with eyes. In Revelations, there are four angels that appear as six-winged, eye-covered animals. There are angels that appear as nothing more than a light or a suggestion that comes in the night. In short, angels can look like damn near anything.

Angel behavior is also a bit different than what you might think. Angels are typically described nowadays as sitting around on clouds, twiddling their thumbs and playing the harp. Not so. In the Bible, especially the Old Testament, they got shit done. They were messengers - and soldiers - of God. If you did something that pissed one of them off, you were in trouble. If they just blinded you, you could consider yourself lucky. If they really didn't like you... well, you were dead. Archangel Michael (aka, the guy with the flaming sword) is said to have wiped out an entire Assyrian army - nearly 200,000 men - all by his lonesome.

So, in short, angels are terrifying, vengeful soldiers of God who could blow you away without a second thought... if you make them angry.
